Overview
The AIM-T500 is an advanced insulation monitoring device designed for industrial IT power distribution systems (unearthed systems). It continuously monitors the insulation resistance to earth in real time with high precision. When the insulation level drops below preset thresholds, it issues alarm signals, allowing maintenance personnel to identify and clear faults promptly, preventing unplanned downtime and ensuring operational safety. With support for higher system voltages (up to AC 690V / DC 800V) and faster response, it is ideal for demanding environments such as mines, glassworks, chemical plants, explosion-hazard areas, computer centres, and emergency power supplies.

Function
| Insulation Monitoring | Continuously measures insulation resistance of unearthed AC/DC systems up to AC 690V / DC 800V. Range 1kΩ-10MΩ, response time <5s (with 1μF leakage capacitance). Supports higher voltages via external AK terminal. |
| Three–Stage Alarm Output | Three independent relay outputs (error, pre-alarm, main alarm) with adjustable thresholds (10kΩ-10MΩ). Dry contacts for external alarm devices. |
| RS485 Communication | Built-in RS485 interface with Modbus-RTU protocol. Enables integration with SCADA, PLC, or building management systems. |
| Self–Test & Interconnection | Self-test terminals (T1, T2) allow quick verification of measurement accuracy. Interconnection terminals (F1, F2) enable coordinated monitoring when two IT systems are coupled. |

FAQ
Connect the monitored system to terminals L1 and L2. For three-phase systems, connect any two phases. For DC systems, connect L1 to positive, L2 to negative. For systems with neutral, connect both L1 and L2 to the neutral. Ensure functional earth (KE, PE) is connected to the local equipotential earth bar.
T1 and T2 are self-test terminals. Shorting them simulates a fault to verify the device’s measurement accuracy. Do not short them during normal operation.
When two separate IT systems are coupled (e.g., via a tie switch), connect F1 and F2 between the two AIM-T500 units. This ensures only one device monitors the combined system, preventing false alarms.
Yes, with the optional AK extension module. Contact technical support for details on high-voltage applications.
Check the alarm recovery mode setting. If set to manual, change it to automatic via the menu to enable self-reset.
Summary
The AIM-T500 is a robust and versatile insulation monitor for industrial unearthed power systems. It offers an extended measuring range, faster response, and support for higher system voltages compared to the AIM-T300. With three-stage alarm outputs, RS485 Modbus communication, and useful self-test and interconnection features, it provides comprehensive protection for critical industrial environments requiring high reliability and flexibility.
